wow!!! my family and i always called that the birthday cake house because we thought that it looked like a birthday cake. what we would do is who ever’s birthday is closer when we see that house we have them make a wish. it doesnt look to much like a birthday cake anymore but i think that it still like fabulous!!!
love the new look, but I still think it needs the red awning back? It looks much bigger than the old sea mist. Glad to see such a historic house back on the Cape May Strip.
They did a wonderful job in rebuilding the Sea Mist. I know that they took great pains to recreate it, but it seems to lack some of the elegance of the old building.
It is lacking the red awnings and the flags that Fernando used to put out. The front porch, with the rockers, is different shaped. Also the dogs (Fred and Barney)are down the street instead of out front. But it is nice to see it again.
looking forward to making settlement and moving in this thur. I think that marzilli did a grea job on entire project. The interior custom work rivals anything in cape may.
I can appreciate that the building had much needed repairs done but it doesn’t have the same feel as the old one. Sorry, they could have keep the facade closer to the original. And as for the dogs they came from the house on the corner of Beach and Jefferson, put there by the owners back in the late 80’s or early 90’s. When the house at 825 was sold in 2001 the owner got rid of them saying they didn’t fit in. Fernando had the smarts to locate them and bring them back to the C.M. and eventually they found their way home again.
I just don’t like it. There’s a much different feel to a building that’s been renovated, in contrast to a completely new structure. The lines are far to sharp, there’s no nicks or grooves in the wood and all the character seems to be gone.
The Seamist was a Cape May landmark, but what is standing in its place these days is not the Seamist. It’s a modern reproduction of the original building. The new Seamist doesn’t even compare to the gorgeous and comprehensive rehabilitations that have been done on places like Congress Hall, The Virginia or the many B&B’s around town.
Thats what is missing the awnings..I could not put my finger on it. I always love my stay’s with Sea Mist Sue. The house has changed hands but I still count the former owner as one Great friend.
This was my favorite place as a teenager. It will always belong to the MOrrisons in my eyes. I loved it then and I love looking at it now with all the memories attached.
My absolute favorite house in Cape May. I always dreamed of having my morning coffee in the gazebo watching the seagulls and dolphins. Sweet dreams!
After seeing this beautiful old house stripped down to a a few boards, it is so nice to see it rise again to its beautiful stance along the beach.
It is big.
Ok, sold. We’re moving in tomorrow!

I have loved this house since I was in my teens and visiting Cape May. Someday I only hope to stay there for a week… that is my dream :)
The restoration is beautiful. What’s missing is the Phillies’ flag that flew all summer long!
Wow…coming down next week. I can’t wait to see it!

I agree with you 100%! It’s lost it’s character. It’s a shame.

I wish I had enough money to buy the top floor condo! My dream is to see the beaches and city from the candle top of that giant birthday cake house!
