  1. this is a secret spot i did not know of until i read the article. Im going to have to go there on my vacation in 2 days!

  2. I love walking this stretch of beach, but I miss the old Voodoo tree and carving that was there. I think that the larger driftwood sculpture in the picture is the South Voodoo. It is carved on the other side.

  3. Where is this? all the times we have been down there this is the first we are hearing of this place. Looks interesting hmmm a new spot to check out on our next visit. Anyone with more info on this place we would love to hear about it. thanks!

  4. Take Sunset Blvd, toward Cape May Point. About 1/2 way there, turn right onto South Bayshore (route 607). When you get to New England Rd. (route 641) turn left. Drive to the end of the road and you will run into Higbee Park (you will also pass the Alpaca Farm). There is a small area to park in. The sandy road to your right takes you to the jetty near the Ferry terminal. The small sandy path, in front of you, takes you up to Higbee Beach. Once you hit the beach, walk left towards Sunset Beach. Don't wander through the woods, too much poison sumac and ticks!! Have fun.

  5. Does anyone know what happened to the Voodoo tree? All the years I've been to Capemay I have never had the oppurtunity to see it, but would love too. It sure would be worth the drive down.

    • Sadly, the original Voodoo Tree was cut down. We aren't sure exactly when it was done or by whom, but we were told people have found the stump. A second, "The South Voodoo Tree," has since been carved.

  6. There are still a ton of driftwood and I've never seen "the original" voodoo tree, but there is a south voodoo tree now… pretty cool place to shoot, sunset pics though, a ton of footprints in the sand, even in november. one of the few places to see a great sunset on the horizon…

  7. I found out about Higbee Beach via NJ Monthly. My family has been looking for a quiet, laid back, off the beaten path beach and I think we found it! We can’t wait!
