You know we wish that they would update this arcade a bit but once you are there goofing around with the kids you appreciate it and that it is fine just the way it is. An old time arcade we love the wack a mole right there in front even though our kids are older now they still love to hit the mole. We love that little board walk.
Back in the early 70s, when I was just a young girl, my family used to tease that I went home paler than when I arrived at the beach because I spent all my time in the Family Fun Center. My two grandmothers used to leave rolls of nickels and quarters under my pillow each night of our vacation! Luckily the gambling habit didn't stick and as I matured I came to love Cape May for its natural beauty!
Some things never change….my grandmother named Phyllis also used to take my brother and me up there to play Skee Ball, and those old pinball machines took dimes and nickels. I remember an old baseball themed machine where the flipper caused a bat to hit the ball onto the field for a single, double or triple or if you were lucky a home run. Back then ('60s) we had to get dressed up to go to the boardwalk, kiddie dances in Convention Hall or back into town. I guess some things do change. Anyone remember Kiddie Land, the small amusement park behind the Beach Theater?
Even as teenagers, our daughters love to go to this arcade and play skee ball. They save quarters for months prior to our trips to CM. Hey, who doesn't like a good game of skee ball!
From 1977 thru 1990 I went to Cape May for the last week in July with my grand parents. My grand father would take me to this arcade every night while we were down there and this picture brought many of those happy memories back to me. My grand mother had a heck of an arm for skee ball and I enjoyed watching her get more prize tickets than anyone else when she played. I would've got better prizes if she came more often no doubt. I've gone on to continue to visit Cape May frequently to this day but, it's my child hood memories that I cherish and yearn to reflect on them each time I'm in Cape May.
I own every video game system they make, but when I come to Cape May I still love visiting the "retro" arcade. I begin each vacation by finding some prize that I want to win, then spend lots of money earning hundreds of tickets to get an item that probably costs $1.50 to make! But it's all about the fun, and all about the wonderful time machine that is Cape May.
