I know this is probably blasphemous but I think some entity (the Army Corp of Engineers?) should destroy what is left of that old ship sticking up in the water. It's ugly, it's scary looking and it ruins the view. Get rid of it! It has no sentimental meaning to Cape May. It's timme for it to go! There, I said it.
Ha! When I recently made the same suggestion about the WWII bunker it was met with stiff opposition. I may be a little sentimental about the ship…it's been there since I was a baby…every year a little more is gone. Nature's doing away with this one. I have been under the impression that due to it's position is why the rocks are deposited on the beach right there…and since I love hunting rocks, I don't want anything to alter that. And at this angle it kinda looks like a hand reaching out of the sea. Where else in the world can you go to see a sunken concrete ship?
Aw! I've always loved the sunken ship. It's been part of the area since the 1920s. I used to beg my mom to take me to see it when I was little. It's interesting to see the photos of it over the years, slowly deteriorating into the waves.
I was there yesterday, a little earlier than this was taken. There were very large waves being blown in on the shore. Didn't find any sea glass since it was way too cold to spend much time looking. I think that what is left of the ship adds something to the view, for those of us who remember seeing all of the ship in the 60's.
As I and many others who have grown up with the sunken ship, it isn't an eyesore. Just holding onto a part of Cape Mays history that is disappearing before our eyes. It is what makes our sunsets and beaches so beautiful and unique!
Cape May is absolutely beautiful! The ship should be left completely alone, because it is something that makes Cape May unique. Where else can you go to see a true sunken ship right in the middle of the ocean! The ship is especially nice when you watch the sunset behind it, definitely gorgeous then! It all fits. The beach and ship are perfect as they are! I love it! :)
The sunken ship is part of what makes Cape May! It is a beautiful part of Cape May and should definatley be left alone! It is part of Cape May's history and if you wreck it that is like destroying a historical building! I love it how it is:)
Die-hard diamond hunter….like me.
And if he walked along the water's edge on the other side of the jetty he might get lucky and find some sea glass. :)

They are both historic and should be left as they are!
PAT P. I TOTALLY agree!!!!!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, looks cold but inviting.

I agree. Like the bunker, it's part of Cape May history. Let Mother Nature take its course.
I guess if I grew up in Cape May I would feel the same way about the ship.
To me it always looked eerie and hauntingly scarey.
But I do see your points!
that guy must be freezing.
