About Phil Courtney
My family and I moved to Cape May in 1995. We had always vacationed at the Jersey Shore and we made a decision to make the beach our home. Soon after moving here, I started painting some of my favorite places in Cape May. In this series of watercolors, I have tried to combine my love for impressionism and realism in an attempt to depict the intricate details of Cape May’s Victorian architecture. I also tried to capture the unique quality of light which prevails in Cape May’s seashore area.
I studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art from 1972 to 1976 and Tyler School of Art from 1976 to 1978.
