- Things to Do
Cape May offers several accommodation types for varying tastes and budgets. Enjoy modern-day convenience at our beachfront hotels and luxury B&Bs, or step back in time at a historic inn or guest house.
Most accommodations are within walking distance of the beach, with easy access to the Washington Street Mall, and provide a variety of amenities, from swimming pools to pet-friendly lodging.
Cape May’s B&Bs are upscale accommodations, most located in historic Victorian houses. They offer either a seated or continental breakfast and the convenience of an on-site innkeeper to help with the details of your visit to Cape May. Select B&Bs also offer an afternoon tea. Some are decorated with period antiques and furniture, while others are fully modernized for the contemporary traveller. Cape May’s bed and breakfast inns are air conditioned and offer private baths. They’re an ideal choice for couples, weekend getaways with friends, and families with well-behaved children. Not all B&Bs welcome young children, but we’ve made note of those that do.
Guest Houses are private homes that offer accommodations--either single rooms or suites. Most of Cape May's Guest Houses are in the setting of a historic house, so you can enjoy the ambiance of a B&B with the freedom of being at a hotel. Like B&Bs, you’ll enjoy the benefit of a manager or innkeeper to assist with your stay, but you’ll have the independence to eat breakfast at your leisure at any of Cape May’s restaurants. Guest Houses offer amenities you would expect at a hotel, and many include kitchens or kitchenettes, making them a great option for families.
Cape May has a variety of hotels, from luxury oceanfront accommodations with on-site restaurants and bars, to historic Victorian-era inns, to affordable beachfront motels with swimming pools—perfect for family vacations. The hotels along Beach Avenue are situated across from the ocean, many with views of the Atlantic from your room. Most Cape May hotels offer modern conveniences like upgraded bathrooms, on-site parking, wireless internet, and cable TV.
If you're looking for a more affordable way to visit the shore or prefer the outdoors, Cape May has a number campground facilities to choose from just before you get into town. You can make your adventure as rustic as you like or, if you prefer "glamping," take advantage of the many full-service amenities Cape May area campgrounds have to offer, including swimming pools, recreation rooms, fishing, and internet access in a natural setting.
Why leave your pet at home? A family vacation need not be without the most important member of the family. Be it a guest house or hotel, Cape May has a wide selection of pet-friendly places to stay. Mind the rules, though; almost all pet-friendly accommodations take dogs, and some take cats and dogs. Many have restrictions regarding the weight of the dog and the number of pets which can be accommodated.
Have a big family? Want a longer stay? Like the cozy feel of home? The vacation house rental is ideal for reunions, weddings and family gatherings. With all the amenities of home, and plenty of room to spread out, this is the next best thing to owning a home on the Island.
