"Reflections of Cape May" is a collection of new works by award winning photographers Tina Giaimo and Don Merwin at The King Edward Bar in The Chalfonte Hotel located at 301 Howard Street in Cape May. There will be a Meet the Artists Reception on August 6th from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. Light refreshments will be served.
Tina Giaimo started taking photographs with a borrowed Kodak Brownie camera at age 10. Her husband, Don Merwin was first given a camera at age 9. Combined they have been taking photographs for 101 years. The two have traveled extensively, photographing all over the world, and have found that their favorite subject is their hometown of Cape May. Both photographers have a way of capturing the light and spirit of Cape May, from the beaches and waves, to the historic Victorian homes, and the marinas and commercial fishing boats. "From morning light to the late day sun rays, the colors of Cape May never cease to amaze me," explains Tina Giaimo. "In every season, the beaches of Cape May are spectacular to explore, you never know what treasures can be found right under your feet." Tina Giaimo has a way of seeing and capturing the beauty in the reflections of the receding tide or the setting sun. A former surfer, Don Merwin can often be found wandering the beaches of Cape May with his camera, photographing storms and strange cloud formations coming across the Delaware Bay or the simple beauty of a cresting wave. Seeing Cape May through the eyes of these two local photographers is truly worth taking a look. The exhibit runs through August 30th.
These new Cape May images represent just some of their favorite subjects, many more can be found at Spirit Catcher Photography, located at 31 Perry Street in the Carpenters Square Mall. Don't worry if you see a sign in their window that says, "Out Photographing, Back in an Hour", it's true! They are open daily for the summer from10am-10pm.
