Join New Jersey Audubon's Nature Center of Cape May as they host "Create Today" on Saturday, July 22nd. Calling all artists and art lovers! Artists are invited to create artwork on the grounds of the Nature Center of Cape May between 9am-4pm. All artwork created during the day will be for sale at an artist's reception from 4:30-5:30pm. A portion of the proceeds will go to The Good Neighbor Fund, which provides Nature Center summer camp scholarships to children of Coast Guard families. The Nature Center of Cape May is located at 1600 Delaware Ave, Cape May, NJ.
The public is invited to visit the Nature Center to witness art in the making and are encouraged to talk to the artists about their creative processes, then come back and attend the artists' reception from 4:30-5:30pm to view and purchase the art created during the day. Check in and registration for artists is from 9am-10am. There will be a $5.00 registration fee for each work of art displayed at the reception. Artists will receive 80% of the selling price, Nature Center of Cape May will receive 20%. Participants can work in any medium. "At our last "Create Today" event, in May, we had artists working in oils, watercolor, printmaking and photography," explains Janet Payne of the organizing committee. "We hope even more types of artists will join us this time. The Nature Center and its grounds with views of the Cape May Harbor are very inspiring to all types of artists. A walk on the beach is always good for inspiration and creativity." It is suggested that participants bring a box lunch and picnic on the grounds of the Nature Center.
The Nature Center of Cape May offers lots of Saturday programs as well, including Tidal Marsh Kayak Tours, Salt Marsh and Sealife Safari Cruises "This is a great way for the community to meet and support our local artists and enjoy the grounds of the Nature Center." Explains Gretchen Whitman, Executive Director of The Nature Center. "Walk on our trails and take a walk along the Harbor. Don't forget to visit our lab with our live sea creatures.
