Harborside Chats at the Nature Center of Cape May

Yes, indeed, Harborside Chatsare returning to Cape May Harbor at the Nature Center of Cape May. The winter, the Center staff welcomes an interesting variety of guests who will share their knowledge of topics ranging from local lore to scientific studies to marine topics and more.

A tentative schedule is outlined below.

February 2 nd : Tom Reed, of Reed’s Beach, the Migration Count Coordinator will present: “Cape May, migration capital of the world.”

February 9 th : Lisa Calvo of the Sweet Amalia Oyster Farm will discuss: “New Jersey’s Great Oyster Rebound.”

February 16 th : Katie Morgan of NOAA will update us on “The Current State of the Abandoned Boat Issue in New Jersey.”Katie may be joined by Mr. Steve Rodas of the Star Leger of New Jersey. Steve had been covering the abandoned boat issue for many years.

February 23 rd : Melissa Laurino of the Cape May Whale Watch Research Center will share her knowledge of whales and other cetaceans in our local waters. This is an especially apt topic given the recent strandings on local beaches.

March 2 nd : Emily Reed, the Program Director at the Nature Center of Cape May, will present “Mindful Yoga in Nature.” Bring your mats and dress comfortably.

March 9 th : Captain Warren Judge, Commanding Officer of the Training Center of Cape May will talk about training and leadership in the United State Coast Guard.

March 16 th : Jake Cumo of Revolution Rail will present: “Peddling through Nature.”

March 23 rd : Ralph Boemer will present, “Dynamics of the Barrier Islands”
