Inside Congress Hall’s Winter Wonderland

Each winter, the sweeping lawn of Congress Hall undergoes a transformation carefully curated with holiday magic. From the moment you arrive, Winter Wonderland envelops the historic Cape May hotel in twinkling lights, festive greenery, and the unmistakable hum of holiday cheer—turning it into a lively village where visitors can shop, sip, ride, and wander at their own pace.

At the heart of Winter Wonderland stands the towering, brilliantly lit Christmas tree. Visible from nearly every corner of the lawn, it is the centerpiece—whether you’re pausing to admire it from afar or lining up for the perfect photo beneath its glow. As dusk falls and the lights flicker on, the entire lawn takes on a storybook quality against the backdrop of Congress Hall’s grand façade.

Winter Wonderland is especially enchanting for younger visitors, thanks to its classic kids’ attractions tucked throughout the lawn. The brightly lit carousel spins steadily at the front of the lawn looking out at the ocean, while the Congress Hall Express train offers a short, gentle ride just right for little ones. Looping along the edge of the festivities, the train is less about the journey and more about the joy—smiles, waves, and wide-eyed excitement as children take in the lights and Congress Hall’s elves ensure a safe ride.

The Enchanted Vendor Village makes shopping a major draw at Winter Wonderland. Nestled among the peppermint-striped tents and glowing string lights, the village features local artisans and makers offering everything from cozy winter accessories to handcrafted gifts perfect for the holiday season. Knit hats, scarves, candles, ornaments, artwork, jerky, sports gear, and unique stocking stuffers fill the booths, making it easy to cross off your gift list while supporting small businesses.

Warm up with steaming cups of spiced cider or rich hot chocolate, or opt for a festive seasonal cocktail as you stroll the lawn. Sweet aromas drift from nearby stands offering freshly baked cookies, roasted chestnuts, and slices of holiday pie—perfect for a mid-walk treat or a pause beneath the lights.

For families, Winter Wonderland delivers no shortage of holiday moments. Visits with Santa and Story time with Mrs. Claus invite kids to slow down and soak in the magic, while craft stations offer hands-on activities that keep little hands busy. These experiences, paired with the open layout of the lawn, make it easy for families to explore without feeling rushed or crowded.
