Get a Cape May County Library card online (and make a dent in that to-read list)

Even though Cape May County’s libraries are closed, you can still get a library card. We asked on Twitter, and the library told us to fill out their online registration. Instead of having you come in with your ID, they’ll reach out to complete the process.

So what can you do with your library card if the library isn’t open? Overdrive’s Libby lets you borrow e-books and audio books for free on your computer at libbyapp.com or through its iOS or Android apps. If you’re a Kobo user, you can borrow from Overdrive directly. All you need for either option is an active library card number.

You’ll also have access to Hoopla, which lets you borrow e-books, digital movies, and music.

Cape May County library cards are free to anyone who lives in or owns property in Cape May County (except for Ocean City & Avalon), military and civilians stationed at the US Coast Guard base, campground residents who own their site OR are there at least six months a year, and county employees who live in Ocean City and Avalon. Atlantic County residents are also eligible for a free reciprocal borrower card. If you’re a non-resident, there’s a $90 annual fee, so check with a library near you to see if they offer this service!

(And when things reopen, did you know that visitors to Cape May can get a free visitor’s card so you can use the library resources while you’re here? Bring ID showing your home address to the Cape May Library.)
